Dr Karen Sng is a Ministry of Health-accredited female plastic surgeon in private practice at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre in Singapore. As a woman, she understands the concerns and needs of other women, allowing her to provide a genuine take on how plastic surgery affects you.
As a mother of two, Dr Sng has experienced the changes and challenges that come with pregnancy to a woman’s body, and she brings valuable insights into how plastic surgery can help women and mothers improve their well-being and boost their confidence. Dr Sng has combined her experience with her medical training to provide a fresh, feminine perspective into the realm of reconstructive aesthetic and aesthetic plastic surgery.
Dr Sng graduated from the University of Leicester Medical School and was awarded membership into the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh upon her completion of basic surgical training. Thereafter, she attained a Master of Medicine in Surgery from the National University of Singapore.
As part of her journey to specialise in plastic surgery, Dr Sng underwent Advanced Surgery Training in the field of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Her excellence in the field garnered her a Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) scholarship to receive further training at the International Craniofacial Institute Cleft Lip and Palate Treatment Center in Dallas, Texas. She trained under the tutelage of Dr Kenneth E Salyer, one of the pioneering craniofacial surgery surgeons, and Dr Carlos Raul Barcelo.
During her time in Texas, Dr Sng completed a one-year ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) fellowship in cleft and craniofacial surgery. This proved to be one of the most fulfilling opportunities of Dr Sng’s career as she was part of the team that cared for and separated the Egyptian craniopagus twins, Mohammed and Ahmed.
Having gained valuable experience abroad, Dr Sng returned to Singapore in 2005 after successfully completing her plastic surgery training and was admitted to the Register of Specialists and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. She was appointed Consultant, and later Senior Consultant, at the Department of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery Department at the Singapore General Hospital. Today, she maintains her ties with the public healthcare sector as a Visiting Consultant to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Dr Sng has introduced the “Mummy Makeover”, a customized bundle of procedures that are focused on helping mothers regain their pre-pregnancy body and confidence. She goes to great lengths to understand the needs of each patient, and tailors each procedure specifically depending on their needs and goals.
Dr Sng has formerly held the presidencies of the Singapore Association of Plastic Surgeons and the Singapore Society of Cosmetic (Aesthetic) Surgeons. In her capacity as President, she chaired numerous plastic surgery workshops and conferences across the nation.
In her free time, Dr Sng volunteers on overseas mission trips where she treats underprivileged children in developing countries. She also lends her medical expertise to interviews with the media to spread knowledge to the public and clear up misconceptions about the industry.
With Dr Sng’s passion and commitment, we strive to provide patients with a highly personalized, transparent, effective and comfortable experience from the first time you step in our clinic to full recovery.
