Coolsculpting employs a process called cryolipolysis in which fat cells are frozen using sub-zero temperatures. The fat cells crystallise as they are frozen and gradually die off before being naturally eliminated by the body. As the body eliminates the fat, you’ll see a gradual fat reduction over several weeks.
Once the crystallised (frozen) fat cells are eliminated by the body, they are gone for good. There is no need for a special diet. In order to experience the full benefits of Coolsculpting, patients need to maintain their weight and should adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise.
Commonly treated areas include the tummy, flanks (muffin tops/love handles), thighs, bra rolls, back fat and upper arms. Coolsculpting is also effective for reducing the double chin effect.
The treatment typically takes around 35-60 minutes. Dr Sng will do an initial assessment of the area to be treated and identify the optimal applicator position for the procedure. In the first few minutes of the treatment, you may feel a pulling or tugging sensation before the area starts to feel cold. As the cooling effect occurs, the treated area becomes numb. Massage is then performed at the end of treatment in order to break down the crystallized fat.
After treatment, it is normal to have temporary redness and there may be bruising at times. These effects are temporary and normally resolve themselves over a few days. The treated area may feel firm and slightly numb or tingly for a period of a few days or up to a few weeks. Results can be seen and felt as early as a month after, with more visible results 2 months after treatment.
Typically, 2 treatments for each area will give more significant fat reduction. However, patients experience fat reduction even after a single treatment, and these slimming effects can last for months.
